Angela M. Tomlin, Ph.D. is Clinical Associate Professor and Coordinator of Psychology for the Indiana’s LEND Program, the Riley Child Development Center at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Tomlin was a founding board member and Vice Chair. She is credentialed as a provider for Indiana’s Part C program, First Steps and in 2005 earned the Distinguished Mentor Endorsement through the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health. Dr. Tomlin’s clinical interests include diagnosis of autism, international adoption, and intervention for relationship and behavior concerns. Her research interests include provider preparation and training. With her husband of 20+ years, she is the proud parent of 19 and 16 year old daughters. Contact Dr. Tomlin at atomlin@iupui.edu.

Stacey Cornett, LCSW

Stacey Cornett, LCSW has been in practice for 19 years specializing in the treatment of infants, toddlers and older children who have experienced abuse, neglect or trauma. Stacey consults on a regular basis with area schools, early intervention providers and therapists regarding the topics of attachment, the practice of Infant Mental Health and home based services for high-risk youth. Stacey graduated from Saint Louis University with a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1988 and later completed a Post Graduate Clinical Traineeship in Infant Mental Health at the Infant Parent Institute in Champaign, IL. Stacey is endorsed by the Michigan Association of Infant Mental Health as a Distinguished Infant Mental Health Mentor. She currently serves as the Director of Intensive Youth Services at the Community Mental Health Center in Batesville, IN.

Stephen C. McCaffrey, JD, CEO MHAI:

Steve earned his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis, and has been with MHAI since 1991. He is a recipient of the Webster-Kipfer Award
for special achievement in public policy advocacy, a former Vice Chairman for Public Affairs and member of the Board of Directors of the National Mental Health Association, and former Board Member of the American Society of Mental Health Association Professionals. He has been named to the National Directory of "Who's Who in Executives and Professionals" and by the Indiana Business Journal as a member of "Who's Who in Indiana Health Care." Steve has received gubernatorial appointments to the Indiana Mental Health Commission and the Medicaid Quality Advisory Committee. He currently serves as Chair of the Division of Mental Health and Addiction Advisory Committee.


Board Members


Barbara Fries, M.Ed.

Barb received her BA from the University of Michigan; further education from Northwestern, University of St Francis, and IPFW. She is certified in Special Education and Early Intervention. Barb served as Disability/Mental Health Coordinator for CANI Head Start 1986-1996, and Service Coordinator with First Steps 1996-2006. She has been a Consultant with Region V Head Start, member of several Head Start Federal Review Teams, and a State Review Team for First Steps. She is currently serving on the Allen County United Way Success by Six Mental Health Committee and the YWCA initiative to publicize the effects of domestic violence on children.


Matthew Galvin, M.D.

Dr Galvin is currently in the practice of child and adolescent psychiatry, including consultation and service provision to Children’s Bureau Inc., Indiana School for the Blind and Damar in Indianapolis, In.  He is Clinical Associate Professor in Psychiatry at Indiana University and serves as voluntary faculty, teaching with his wife Dr. Meg Gaffney in Introduction to Clinical Medicine I and Conscience Centered Psychiatric Ethics. He is author or co-author of several psycho-educational books for children, adolescents and adults. He is an active contributor to, and serves on the editorial board of, Conscience Works. He has been a member of the Board of the Indiana Association for Infant and Toddler Mental Health since 2004.


Brenda Hamilton


R. Renae Haehl

Renae brings 20 years experience of working toward advancing services for children and families. Her areas of experience include Indiana Governor appointments, Governmental Affairs, Indiana Department of Education, Parent Advisory Councils, Boards of Directors, Physician Outreach and Hospital Systems Development. Ms. Haehl has also served 15 years as liaison between schools and families, families and schools concerning conflict resolution. Renae shares the understanding of parenting a challenged and a non-challenged child.


Azar Hadadian, Ph.D.

Dr. Hadadian is Professor of Special of Education at Ball State University. Dr. Hadadian is one of the founding board members in Indiana. She is a professor of special education at Ball State University. Her areas of expertise include deaf and early childhood special education. She has over 100 publications and presentations at the international/national level. Her areas of research include personal prep and parent child interaction/attachment relationship.

Darlene Kardatzke, MD, FAAP

Dr. Kardatzke, a Founding Board Member of the IAITMH, is a Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrician in the Section of Developmental Pediatrics at Riley Hospital for Children. In her role as Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at the IU School of Medicine Dr. Kardatzke often provides teaching sessions to residents about infant mental health issues. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Board certified in Pediatrics and Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, and a member of the Society for Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Kardatzke is a married mother of 3 adult children, all of whom are also married. She is a proud grandmother of 2 grandsons.


Karen Kaser

Karen is the Family Support Coordinator for the Newborn Follow-up Program located at Riley Hospital for Children, Section of Developmental Pediatrics. In addition to her extensive professional experience, Karen brings the perspective of a parent of a child with special needs. Karen and her husband, Larry have three children, Kim and Brian who are married and Kelly who has Down syndrome.  Karen can be contacted at kakkaser@iupui.edu.


Suzanne M. Lange

Assistant Director/Allen County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Program
Suzanne has been a life long resident of Ft. Wayne. She attended Ball State University, graduating in 1988 with a Bachelor's degree in Social Work. Suzanne has previously worked with the elderly as the Social Services Director for a Nursing Home in Warsaw, IN. She has also worked with the Developmentally Disabled and Mentally Handicapped through ARC and Residential Management Services. She was a Child Welfare Case Manager in Indianapolis (Marion County) and Ft. Wayne (Allen County) prior to becoming the Assistant Director of the CASA Program in 1994. to date, Suzanne has over 20 years experience in social services, with her primary focus on children and families.
Suzanne has been married to Brian Lange, an attorney in Ft. Wayne, for almost seven years. She has three children, Lindsey age 19, a Freshman at Purdue, Shelby age five, and Carson age two. Suzanne and Brian have been licensed foster parents since 2003.


Darlene Logan

Darlene has been a Board member since 2002. She is the Disability/Mental Health Coordinator for the state of Indiana for the Texas Migrant Council, Inc. (dba New America Corporation). She can be contacted at darlene.logan@mail.tmccentral.org.


Therese Mihlbauer, Ph.D., HSPP

Dr. Mihlbauer has been a licensed psychologist in Indiana since 1984, working with children of all ages and their families. She is grateful that her local First Steps director and a psychiatrist involved in the SPRANS grant that started the association approached her and introduced her to the infant and toddler mental health field. She became a First Steps provider in 1998 and is facilitating her fourth mentorship group in the Ft. Wayne/Allen County area since the initial one in 200/2001. In November of 2005 Dr. Mihlbauer obtained her Infant Mental Health Specialist Endorsement (Level III) through the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health. She contributed to the start up of the Allen County Success By Six Mental Health Committee and was recently trained in the Parents As Teachers (PAT) model.


Heike Minnich, PsyD, HSPP

Heike is a staff psychologist and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Section of Developmental Pediatrics, Indiana University School of Medicine. In this capacity she provides assessment and psychotherapy services to young patients and their families at Riley Hospital for Children. She founded and directs the Parent-Child Clinic which provides psychological services to young children with emotional and behavioral challenges. She is also involved in teaching and clinical research. Her clinical and research interests are in the area of early trauma, adoption and foster care, and developmental psychopathology.


Denise Senter, LMHC


Lynne Sturm, Ph.D.

Lynne Sturm, PhD. HSPP is a clinical psychologist at the Riley Child Development Center and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics, Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a graduate Fellow of Zero to Three and enjoys clinical practice, teaching and writing about early childhood mental health.


Stephan Viehweg, ACSW, LCSW

Steve is the Founding Chair of the IAITMH and is Associate Director of the Riley Child Development Center , a nationally recognized interdisciplinary leadership training program supported by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Steve provides mental health services to children and their families through the Riley Child Development Center and as a First Steps early intervention provider in Hancock and Shelby counties. He has provided consultation and training to the states and territories of Indiana , Colorado , Louisiana , Missouri , West Virginia , Georgia and Puerto Rico . Steve’s experience as a social work provider with families and their children, and his ability to communicate in Spanish and American Sign Language, make him a well respected, sought after provider and consultant.
