The IAITMH is involved in a variety of projects that support Indiana’s infrastructure for strengthening relationships between infants/toddlers, families and other caregivers. Members and colleagues are encouraged to get involved and access the information from these activities.

With support from the Indiana Head Start Collaboration Office, the Indiana Association for Infant and Toddler Mental Health (IAITMH) partnered with the Indiana Chapter of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (I-AFCC) to present a day long conference designed to assist early childhood professionals to increase their knowledge and ability to participate in legal systems and procedures including family courts, mediation, and child welfare.

This impetus for the conference includes awareness that young children are represented in child welfare and foster care at higher levels than older children, making it likely that Head Start and other early care and education professionals are very likely to be working with these vulnerable young children in their practices. At the same time, early care and education professionals, along with others, such as mental health professionals, may be unfamiliar and uncomfortable with courts and court proceedings. This conference was intended to bring together mental health, early care and education workers, and legal professionals to enhance partnership and professional collaboration.

The sections below provide information that can be used to plan a similar conference in your location. Information provided includes a sample Conference Agenda, sample brochure, powerpoints, suggested presenters, and potential participants and partners.
